CETA-Ram BRICK PRESS

Bamako, Mali

Traditional sub-saharian architecture is the result of millennial adaptations on the hardship of local conditions. The scarcity of resources makes fundamental a thorough expertise of local communities on innovative ways to use earth, thus strengthening both sustainable development and resilience.

Our capacity building activities aim to create a bridge between tradition and modernity, de-constructing the perception of earth as a poor material and breaking the actual complete reliance on imported technologies that hardly fit with the harsh local climate.

Our key objective is to provide the competences necessary to manufacture a brick press with basic steel-working even within the most isolated communities.

With the support of this press it is possible to improve the reliability and durability of raw materials, widening the spatial applications of earth as construction material and therefore create a unique, local architectural identity that goes over our own involvement within the project.
